Bausch + Lomb has received CE mark clearance for SeeLyra, its next-generation femtosecond laser for ophthalmic surgery.

The company said SeeLyra offers precision and control when performing laser preparation for premium cataract, LASIK flap, and corneal therapeutic surgeries. It also supports the quick, efficient workflows required in modern ORs.

SeeLyra combines real-time, swept-source OCT with laser-positioning controls to support procedural accuracy and consistency. The system offers live depth visualization during docking and laser application, while retaining VICTUS features like an intuitive interface and support for cataract, LASIK flap, and corneal therapeutic procedures.

A compact, bed-free design supports flexible positioning and transport in space-constrained ORs and is compatible with existing bed setups. The design also eliminates bed transfers between procedures, while an articulating swing arm accommodates surgeon positioning preferences.

The femtosecond laser will undergo a limited launch in Europe in the coming months, with broader availability expected in 2027. Bausch + Lomb is also pursuing regulatory approvals in other markets, including the U.S.

In June, the company announced that it had collected and recycled nearly 725,000 pounds of used contact lenses, eye care, and lens care materials in the United States—the equivalent of about five backyard swimming pools worth of water.

Comments from Bausch + Lomb exec and clinicians

Luc Bonnefoy, president, Surgical: “Building on over 15 years of experience in the femtocataract laser market, our goal was to deliver a platform that provides both enhanced functionality and greater flexibility to the OR. SeeLyra delivers, helping surgeons achieve the precise preparation and controlled conditions necessary to unlock the full potential of premium cataract surgery without compromising on space or efficiency.”

José Manuel Larrosa, MD, University of Zaragoza, Spain: “Premium surgery success begins with precise surgical preparation of the eye. SeeLyra will help me to achieve this consistently on my terms, while fitting seamlessly and efficiently into our OR space and workflow.”
